The Public Relations and Communications Department at Algonquin College is responsible for a broad portfolio that includes Community Relations, Government RelationsMedia Relations, Alumni and Internal Communications.

The Department is also responsible for ensuring that the College community is made aware of issues, events and announcements.  Internal communications with staff are achieved through a College-wide Intranet site called myAlgonquin.  The site includes announcements that are updated throughout each day, as well as essential work-related College information for faculty and staff.

In addition, each morning College staff receive a daily e-mail newsletter, Good Morning Algonquin, that keeps them abreast of current news and events at the College. Internal communications to the student body are achieved through posting on Blackboard, an online tool for students and staff, and through e-mail.

The Department is also responsible for coordinating the production of corporate documents such as the Annual Report.

Other internal communications opportunities include:
President's annual August Breakfast for staff
The President's annual Thank You Barbecue for staff in May
Monthly Coffee Breaks with the President
Breakfasts with the President for all new staff

Major corporate events are also coordinated through Algonquin's Public Relations and Communications Department.

In November 2004 the College officially opened Canada's first-ever

Health Science Simulation Lab for nursing education.  In September 2004, Algonquin opened a new state-of-the-art Transportation Technology Centre.
