Algonquin College partners with the Ontario Provincial Police
[December 16, 2002]
An official signing ceremony took place at Algonquin College today. College President Robert Gillett signed a Letter of Understanding with Chris D. Lewis, OPP Chief Superintendent and Regional Commander (Eastern Region) to assist and exchange professional development training for not only Eastern Ontario OPP officers, but also Algonquin College’s Police Foundation students, over the next five years. |
Algonquin, Niagara colleges to offer Bachelor's degree in Photonics

Algonquin College and Niagara College have been given approval by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to deliver a Bachelor’s degree program in Photonics, enabling both colleges to confer their graduates with applied degrees. Algonquin College’s Bachelor of Applied Technology degree in Photonics will be introduced in September 2004. |
Algonquin College offers music courses

Algonquin College receives Heidelberg donation
[November 29, 2002]
A donation from Heidelberg Canada, worth in excess of half-a-million dollars, has been made to Algonquin College’s Print Media program. The state-of-the-art printing equipment includes a pair of two-colour presses and one state-of-the-art Computer-To-Plate (CTP) system. Algonquin College becomes the only learning institution in Canada to feature the new industry-standard CTP system in its curriculum. |
Youth career and employment programs launched in Renfrew county

Young people in Renfrew County who are in the midst of making career decisions are getting some help. Three innovative initiatives that support school-to-work transitions for youth have been launched by several community partners. The programs include Passport to Prosperity, Options 2003 and a new web site designed by Algonquin College’s Job Connect program. |
Algonquin College signs technology alliance with IBM

Algonquin College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IBM Canada Ltd. to create a unique alliance that will enable various technologies throughout the College, and will result in a state-of-the-art technology briefing centre in the new Advanced Technology Centre.

Algonquin College opens Advanced Technology Centre

The doors of Algonquin College’s $23-million Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) officially opened today on Algonquin’s Woodroffe Campus. Algonquin College President Robert Gillett, Board Chair Mike Keller, Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli and Dean of the School of Advanced Technology Morris Uremovich were on hand to ceremoniously open the state-of-the-art learning facility.

Algonquin students win national college slogan contest

Three Algonquin College public relations students have an important decision to make. They must decide what to do with their share of $5,000. On May 27, Charlene Armstrong, Christine Brosko and Heather Wilcox won the Association of Canadian Community Colleges’ (ACCC) inaugural slogan competition in St. John’s Newfoundland on May 27, and will split the grand prize of $5,000. |
Pembroke's boardwalk repaired by Algonquin College forestry students

Students from the Forestry Technician Program at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley are helping to repair Pembroke’s new millennium boardwalk along the city’s waterfront. The boardwalk was damaged earlier this spring by record high water levels in the Ottawa River and strong winds. |

Algonquin does its homework

All colleges in Ontario continue to get excellent results from their KPI surveys and the delta from top to bottom is extremely narrow. For the fourth year in a row, Algonquin College of Applied Arts & Technology has received good marks from graduates, students and employers in the massive province-wide accountability surveys known collectively as Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

Algonquin College launches school in China

Algonquin College President Robert Gillett signed a Letter of Intent today with Yu Min Hong, President of New Oriental School, to offer Algonquin College’s two-year Computer Programmer program in Beijing, China. This is a preliminary document leading up to the official May 8 signing of an agreement between Algonquin College and New Oriental School.
